Parque Natural da Serra de Sao Mamede is an ideal environment for a nice walk or bicycle ride through the astonishing landscape. Visit Anta’s and Menhirs, hamlets and towns, lakes and rivers, remote and almost desolate border villages. Stop at local venues for refreshments and meals.
You’ll pass old cork oaks, stone oaks, olive groves mixed with all kinds of fruit trees and of course the herds of sheeps and cows (hear their bells) in a rocky environment. Enjoy the rich flora and fauna in this microclimate. Be aware that the landscape is quite hilly, especially when visiting the castle villages of Marvao (at an altitude of 800m) and Castelo the Vide (600 m) – our estate lies on an altitude of 400 meter. However the small town of Beira is an almost flat walk right from our kiosk. An electric bike is recommended for those who like a relaxed touring. But the landscape is also perfect for those who like a sportive challenge, running or (mountain)biking.
At kiosk Amsterdao you’ll find a collection of walking and cycling routes (click the link for our collection on komoot). Or just start walking and explore the countryside by yourself, following your own senses. There are several unpaved paths that lead to old hamlets with central fountains and washing facilities.
